What is Walmart+ and why you should consider selling there

Look out Prime, there’s a new “P” in town, and it goes by Plus. Walmart Plus (more commonly written as Walmart+).

Major retailers have Amazon on their minds, and some of them are even trying to be just like it…and eventually even steal some of its share of the pie. I’m lookin’ at you, Walmart.

After getting some ecommerce experience under its belt, Walmart is ready to take the next step, to ADD on, to do what they were doing PLUS some (all puns maybe intended).

Walmart+ was born in September of 2020. For $98 a year, members get:

  • Free shipping
  • Free delivery
  • Special prices on fuel
  • Mobile scan-and-go in-store

Those are some solid Prime-like perks. And while the whole free shipping/delivery thing doesn’t seem too original, Walmart has an advantage over Amazon because more than 90% of Americans live within 10 miles of a Walmart.

From a performance standpoint, Amazon still outpaces Walmart. However, Walmart is fine with that because it’s currently focused on getting the customer experience where it needs to be.

However, once net promoter scores are consistently favorable, it will turn its attention to member acquisition, and then all bets are off.

So which should you be selling on? Trick question! Both. Everywhere. Always.

Do not abandon your Amazon listing. But give it a frenemy and start selling on Walmart. The more places you are, the more sales opportunities you create. And once Walmart steps on the gas, you’ll want to already be riding shotgun.

Bottom line: It’s not about choosing one over the other; it’s about constantly INCREASING your brand presence. And ADDing more sales opportunities. I think you know where I’m going with this…
