Sales typically sag in the summer, but will people’s wanderlust make it worse? What can you do to prevent the summer dip?

If there’s one thing that Covid changed for the better it’s that more people than ever are getting their asses outside. And after getting the shaft last year, you can bet people are itching to catch up on good times.

66% of people surveyed said they’re doing more outdoor activities close to home in a post-Covid world, and 32% are getting outside more than ever.

That likely means the typical slowdown in sales many experience in the summer months may be even worse this year, unless you’re selling kayaks, bicycles, and grills. If so, kudos. Let me know if you need help counting your cash.

According to Statista, revenue in the Sports and Outdoor segment is expected to show an annual growth rate of 6.7% between 2021 and 2025, resulting in a projected market volume of $34.3M by 2025.

Add on top of that the unanticipated interest of customers who weren’t in the market pre-Covid, and those numbers could actually be shy by a few million.

Cool cool cool…but for the rest of us “indoorsy” folks, slowing sales can be a real summer bummer.

There’s no reason to panic! There are a lot of things you can do to keep sales steady and even get a leg up on the competition.

  • Summer is full of holidays – make sure your marketing reflects whatever America is celebrating.
  • Reprice your slow selling items.
  • Optimize your product listings.
  • Offer product bundles.
  • Expand your categories.
  • Start selling beach towels, water mats, and bubble guns.

So it looks like it’s time to stretch those hammies, the Summer Comeback of ’21 is here and it’s opening a fire hydrant of cash right into your swim shorts!
