Three Strategies for Becoming the Tom Effing Brady of Amazon Marketing

The Super Bowl looked a little different this year. I mean Tom Brady was there and he won, so ultimately the game itself wasn’t that different (nice to know that there are still some things we can count on?). But the in between parts, aka commercial breaks, were kind of different. You know?

Allow me to clarify. Now, more than ever, advertisers had a lot of current events to consider during brainstorms for their $5.5M commercial time. Some missed the mark, largely due to overly-complicated creative. Others crushed. Special shout out to Amazon who had it all: humor, diversity, and a shirtless Michael B. Jordan.

So if you couldn’t afford it or opted to virtue signal out of it (that’s a piping hot take, don’t burn yourself), how exactly do you advertise? Or to put it in football terms, do you pass the ball? Run it? Kick it? Hold it? What if you can’t find it?

Everybody calm down. We did some light reading and extracted some of the top advice among experts on what to know when marketing your small business on Amazon in 2021.

  • While you don’t need 30-second-commercial-during-the-big-game kind of money, you will need to dip into the piggy bank a little to be relevant in 2021. Amazon is leaning into a pay-to-play strategy with fewer and fewer organic posts appearing on page one.
  • Let’s get physical visual. Move over high quality imagery and photography (just kidding, don’t go anywhere you’re still very important!) to make room for more video assets. It’s simple: You want to sell more. Videos help sell more. Amazon is letting you publish videos. Ergo, you need videos. And that’s a wrap.
