Which metric should you focus on to deepen confidence in your products?

Many Amazon sellers become fixated on garnering terrific reviews, and some even pay for praise of their products.

But is it worth it?

There are a lot of fake reviews out there, and the sincere ones are usually negative. (21% of buyers are more likely to leave a review after a negative experience vs. a positive one, and only 1 in 10 customers leaves a positive review after purchasing.)

Moreover, not every consumer believes Amazon reviews. Only 13% of customers on Amazon fully trust the reviews they find on products.

Amazon’s answer was the ratings system, introduced in 2019. Is it more reliable than reviews?

Ratings are an easier way for customers to leave trustworthy feedback without having to leave a name, title, written review, and social security number.

Ok, maybe not that last one, but now people are prompted to click the amount of stars out of five to rate the product they purchased after a verified sale.

Easy peasy.

Turns out when you ask very little of people, they rise to the occasion – evidenced by participation in reviews/ratings sky-rocketing since the introduction of this concept.

The fact that ratings are more likely to come from verified sales is better for everyone. It’s less work for the seller because there are no comments to respond to meaning less time spent going through each review to verify actual complaints (even hilarious complaints like this).

Ratings seem to be king (or queen), but both reviews and ratings matter, so let’s shoot for the m’f-in stars.
