Innovations in the Pet Sector are Presenting Millennials With an Offer They Can’t Refuse

Sweaters, ties, organic food, and new technology – pets are quickly becoming the baristas of the animal kingdom. And in an online market that has nearly quadrupled since 2013, we say “Damn the health codes, that pooch needs a job!”

Over 63 million households in the US have pets, which explains why pet food and supplies are among the top 3 e-commerce categories across the industry. “Pet Parents”, or people who apologize to their cat when they fart, have turned to the convenience of buying their pet food and treats through Amazon.

Pet food sales on Amazon grew by 45% between January and June of 2020, and by the looks of the pet adoption rate over the last year, those numbers are expected to keep growing. The pet supply industry category has sales of around $4.54 billion dollars in the US alone with a positive sales growth of 2.7% because of people like this who buy things like these.

Much of this growth is driven by the 72.1 Millennials in the US, who prefer quality products and 52% of whom feel it’s important that the brands they buy share their values (which is hard when you’re politically a little left and your dog is an anti-vaxxer). One seller who does this well is Victor’s Cookies, which are made with organic ingredients and pledges to send a meal to a shelter animal for each bag purchased.

With Amazon being responsible for 39% of the total online pet food and supply market share in 2020, and D2C companies thriving with innovative and conscientious product offerings , the opportunity for continued growth and repeat orders is so big you’ll need one of these to pick it up. Seriously, it freezes this time of year. Nobody likes a poopsicle.
