America drinks 400 million cups of coffee per day, which explains why retail coffee sales reached USD $14.9 billion in 2020
COVID-19 changed all of our lives in a lot of ways. One thing that hasn’t changed is the need for that first coffee and subsequent bathroom break to herald a new work day.
Sales of coffee and java products have exploded a latte on Amazon, growing steadily by around 32-38% CAGR through the pandemic. Sales dipped at one point because Amazon sellers simply couldn’t keep up with demand, meaning there might be room to get in on the action.
Online grocery sales grew 54% in 2020, and it is no surprise that Home and Kitchen is currently Amazon’s most popular category while people work from home and live out their barista dreams (minus the abusive customers ruining their bathrooms).
Coffee sells more than any other single product type in the grocery group on Amazon. It also continues to grow by 40% or more annually, which is very cool (coffee) beans for sellers.
With Amazon being the go-to place to find different types and new brands of coffee (as evidenced by 60% of total search volume), now is a brewtiful time to get in on the action.
People feed their caffeine addiction in all kinds of ways, so there are many avenues to reach consumers:
- Low-tech: Sell pour-over coffee makers and hand grinders to people who believe that it tastes different done slowly.
- High-tech: Items like Ember electric coffee mugs and scales that automatically reorder coffee should have a caution label because they are so hot right now.
- Recurring revenue: Sell specialty coffee, espresso pods, and creamers that people will need to repurchase again and again. Follow Jungle Scouts advice to sell groceries online!
- IV Bag. No? Just me? Okay.
